Decorative

While any functional pot can be decorative (and is!), I also make purely decorative pieces. In particular, I’ve spent much time recently designing and creating miniature structures. Inspired by the village houses I grew up admiring around the holidays, I create unique pieces that can be enjoyed year-round. Each structure is designed with a hollow base big enough to fit a tea light. When lit at night, the tea light’s flame transforms my little creations into luminaries.

To create each of my little decorative structures, I design paper patterns used to measure precise cuts of clay slab. These cuts become the walls and roofs of each piece, assembled using hand building techniques. Once assembled, I attach and cut out windows and doors before hand carving the intricate details that make each piece come to life. I ensure each piece is unique by not using molds. Instead, I design, build, and decorate each piece by hand. I also name each structure to highlight its individual character.
